A mixture design of experiment was used to optimize the combination of citric acid, ethylene glycol and urea as a fuel with the aim of minimizing impurities in single-step synthesis of lanthanum strontium manganite via sol-gel combustion method. Using Design Expert software, a D-optimal mixture was utilized to design the appropriate set of experiments. XRD patterns obtained from as-burned powders identified SrCO3 as the main impurity. Quantitative measurements using Materials Analysis Using Diffraction (MAUD) software revealed SrCO3 content in the range of 12.8-23.5 weight percent. According to the results, the minimum SrCO3 content can be obtained by using the optimum combination including 50% of citrate, 13% of urea and 37% of ethylene glycol functional groups |
